Biography of K Fitzgibbon
Abstract/Expressionist
My grandfather and my great grandfather were accomplished artists. As a child I used to lose myself in grandfather's large paintings of Scotland, fascinated with paddle-wheelers, fishermen, the beautiful Scottish hillsides, plus a scary picture of Gloucester Castle.
I’ve been painting since the age of 4 and loved to study the great masters. I love chess and have done a series on large canvas in dramatic black, grey and white, minimalist style. Some of these works are in the largest private collections in Canada. My works are in collections in US, England, Japan, and Germany and across Canada. Hopefully with the internet, many more will come to enjoy my work around the world.
I am a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists in Vancouver, BC.
My art has been auctioned and donated to the following charities:Canadian Cancer Society Auction: Westin Ballroom (donated fine art), 1999
Alberta Children’s Hospital: (donated fine art) 2001
New York Fire Fighters Auction: November/2001,Cowboys Nightclub, Calgary Alberta (donated fine art)
Muttart Art Gallery Art Auction (now the Calgary Art Gallery) to support the gallery, (donated fine art) on several occasions
My newest adventure is taking me into the realm of abstract. I believe I’ve found my true niche in abstract/empressionist. I thrive on new techniques through self discovery and studying the techniques of my favorite artists. I especially love Rembrandt’s chiaroscuro effects, the light against dark.
