"Perfect Pitch" by Jim Pridgeon
By Jack Straw Productions - Seattle, Washington
Jun 7, 2002, 12:19pm

New installation at the Jack Straw New Media Gallery explores the link between genetics and aesthetic appreciation.

"Perfect Pitch" explores the genetics of aesthetics and asks whether art is primarily a cultural phenomenon or genetically hard-wired and thus deeply involved with the organic structure of the body.

Inspired by the observation that perfect pitch in music has a strong genetic component, Pridgeon uses sound and found objects to illustrate the genetics of aesthetics. By seeking the boundaries between nature and nurture, Pridgeon hopes to explore the reciprocal influences between art and brain.
